Primary 5

Our P5 trip to the Planetarium was amazing and we learnt so much! We made bottle rockets, touched a real meteorite and learnt about life for astronauts in space. The digital projection dome was very cool and we got to see the planets close up and learn about the various constellations! What a day!
Thanks to all those who came out to support our Primary 5 children at their Sports Day. They loved you being there and cheering them on and all ended the day with smiles on their faces! Below are a small selection of the many photographs that were taken by some of our P5 pupils.

Date for the Diary:

Friday 16th June - trip to Armagh Planetarium. The notes are out so please return as soon as possible.

In preparation for our trip to the Planetarium, P5 were asked to do some research about space for homework. Below are two of the many great pieces of work that were brought back in.

Finishing off our British Isles topic! What did we learn? Have a read... 1
Sadly our British Isles topic is now over, but we recapped some of the things we have learnt using an iPad app called 1-4-0. The children created their very own 'fake tweets' to showcase these facts using a limited number of characters- far harder than you would think!

Exam week timetable for P5:

Monday: Comprehension and Data Handling

Tuesday: Grammar and Shape & Space

Wednesday: Number

Thursday: Measures and Handwriting

Friday: Spelling

Through our Egyptian topic we have been learning not only about pyramids and pharaohs, but about everyday Egyptian life. The Nile was their only source of water and so they had to get water out of it and into canals which ran to their fields. They did this using a shaduf. After exploring what a shaduf was, we challenged ourselves to build a model one in groups. It was great fun and nice to see them working at the end!

Egyptian Day

What fun we had on our Egyptian Day! There were some amazing costumes and people really got into character! We walked the catwalk dressed as mummies, played Egyptian food, did maths using Egyptian numbers, ate Egyptian food and started making canopic jars! A jam packed day but loved by all!

We used an app called Tellagami to create a new report on the moon landing. We designed our reported, added a background by saving an image from Google, before typing in our report and saving it.
